Academic-practice partnerships

The case for clinical nurse specialists

A consortium of eight health systems and the University of Minnesota launched an initiative to raise awareness of the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) role, which can transform patient care, reduce burnout and save health systems money. Representatives from Allina Health, CentraCare, Children’s Minnesota, Essentia Health, HealthPartners, M Health Fairview, North Memorial Health and Ridgeview joined with the University of Minnesota to form a CNS consortium to promote the critical role of the CNS and ensure it remains a cornerstone of Minnesota’s health care delivery.

Colaboratories

HealthPartners, University of Minnesota establish Nursing Collaboratory

HealthPartners and the school announced the creation of a formal academic-practice partnership, or collaboratory, to generate knowledge for the improvement of nursing practice, education and patient outcomes. It is the school’s 11th collaboratory.

Additional collaboratories are M Health Fairview, Essentia Health, Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System, Children’s Minnesota, Faith Community Nurse Network, PrairieCare, Mayo Clinic, Minnesota Hospital Association, Allina Health and Hennepin Healthcare.

The 11 collaboratories serve as nursing think tanks and innovation hubs, bringing together faculty, clinicians, staff, and students around a shared vision.
