February 23, 2026
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) nursing informatics specialty at the University of Minnesota received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). It is the first program of its kind in the country to receive this prestigious designation.
The accreditation affirms the program’s excellence in curriculum design, faculty expertise, and commitment to preparing nurse informaticists who are equipped to lead digital transformation, data-driven decision-making, and innovation across health care systems. Achieving CAHIIM accreditation reflects the School of Nursing’s ongoing dedication to academic quality, professional standards, and workforce relevance in the rapidly evolving field of nursing informatics.
“Our DNP nursing informatics program has a long history of being a leader in nursing informatics education,” says Associate Professor Robin Austin, PhD, DNP, DC, NI-BC, FAMIA, FAAN, who serves as specialty coordinator. “This accreditation highlights our commitment to ongoing excellence and to ensure the next generation of nursing/health informatics leaders are prepared to lead in an AI-driven health care environment.”
The University of Minnesota School of Nursing was the first school in the country to offer a DNP degree in nursing informatics and remains committed to advancing nursing leadership, informatics education, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve health outcomes locally, nationally, and globally.
Program accreditation is for 10 years.
