Amy Seevers Nelson & David Nelson Scholarship
Established by Amy Seevers Nelson ('55 BSN) and her husband, this scholarship is awarded to nursing students and/or healthcare professionals who enroll in academic courses as a means of pursuing professional development and leadership opportunities in nursing.
Ardus Kluth Hopkins Scholarship
Charles R. Hopkins established this scholarship in memory of his wife, Ardus Kluth Hopkins ('61 BSN). This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students with career goals in public school nursing.
Audrey Windemuth Nursing Scholarship
Created by the late Audrey Windemuth ('39 BSN & '59 MS in Nursing Administration), this scholarship gives preference to undergraduates from North Dakota. Born in Langdon, North Dakota, Windemuth was cited in the 1968 edition of Who's Who of American Women. She served as Assistant Director of Nursing Services at the U of MN Hospital under Katharine J. Densford. Her 1957 textbook, "The Nurse and the Outpatient Department," with forward by Densford, became a valuable guide for many nurses. In 1959, Ms. Windemuth became director of nursing for a new hospital at the University of West Virginia. Awarded by the Densford Center.
Beulah Gautefald Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the late Beulah Gautefald ('37 BSN) to support students with financial need who maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
Bonnie Bata-Jones Scholarship
In honor of Bonnie's giving spirit as a nurse, teacher, mentor, and humanitarian, this scholarship supports nursing students working toward advanced degrees leading to careers as nurse practitioners.
Cecilia Hauge Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1990 by family and friends of the late Cecilia Hauge ('29 BSN). After serving as Superintendent of Nursing at University Hospital, Ms. Hauge became chief of nursing in the European Theater of Operations during WWII. As a Lieutenant Colonel, she was awarded the Bronze Star and later became national director of the V.A. Nursing Services in Washington D.C. She received the University of Minnesota's Outstanding Achievement Award in 1957. The Scholarship supports students with financial need who demonstrate potential for leadership and professional achievement.
Charles H. And Clara M. Taylor Scholarship
Established by the late Norma I. Treska Benner in memory of two very important people in her life. Priority is given on the basis of merit and financial need to nursing students pursuing baccalaureate degrees as a means of enhancing their potential to provide effective patient care.
Class of 1960 Nursing Scholarship
Created by members of the Class of 1960 in appreciation for the education that they received at the School of Nursing to provide scholarships for new undergraduate nursing students.
Class of 1961 Nursing Scholarship
Permanently endowed by the Class of 1961 in grateful appreciation for the education that they received, this fund provides need and merit-based scholarships for full-time undergraduate students who are new to the School of Nursing.
Clifton J. Brisco Scholarship
Established in 1979 from the estate of Clifton J. Brisco to provide scholarships for nursing students who demonstrate merit.
Danielson Nursing Scholarship
Created by the Danielson brothers, now deceased, in gratitude for the nursing care received by members of their family. This scholarship is awarded to qualified students with demonstrated financial need.
Doris Kupferschmidt Nursing Scholarship
Established by the late Doris Kupferschmidt ('48 BSN) through her estate to provide scholarships for undergraduate nursing students. Awarded to nursing students based on merit and financial need.
Emily Carol Hennings Anderson Scholarship
Created by Emily Carol Hennings Anderson ('63 BS in Nursing Education) in 2011, this scholarship supports students in the School of Nursing who are pursuing B.S.N. degrees, especially those from the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
Enid O. and Kenneth T. Swanson Scholarship
Established by Kenneth T. Swanson in memory of his wife Enid O. Swanson, a '43 Swedish Hospital graduate. Plus factors for receiving the award include being a Minnesota native, attending school on the Twin Cities campus, and being a 'B' to 'C' student.
Freia and Elmer Kettunen Scholarship*
Established by the late Freia ('26 BSN) and Elmer Kettunen to support undergraduate nursing students who are new to the School of Nursing.
Freida Schulz Winter Scholarship
Established by the late Elmer and Ruth Winter in memory of their mother, Frieda Schulz Winter, who always wanted to be a nurse but never had the opportunity. Awarded to nursing students with financial need and preference is given to applicants from rural areas.
Gloria Larson Hayden Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship
Established by Gloria ('50 BSN) and Eugene Hayden to provide scholarships for undergraduate nursing students working toward a Bachelor of Science degree. Scholarships will be based upon merit and need.
Harold W. and Cecilia B. Langland Scholarship
Established by Penny and James Langland in honor of Jim's parents. Cecilia Biernat Langland is a '47 BSN graduate of the School. Supporting nursing students who are new to the University of Minnesota, the Langlands hope this scholarship will encourage students to pursue careers in nursing and/or public health nursing. (Awarded by the Office of Student Finance.)
Healthy Living Scholarship
The Healthy Living Scholarship is offered by Minnesota Vein Center to provide an advantage to those who reflect the stimulus of positive change through demonstrated awareness. Undergraduate students with a 3.0 or higher GPA and who embody positive beliefs pertaining to diet, nutrition, physical fitness and emotional wellbeing and our ecological impact are considered.
Helen B. Hansen Memorial Scholarship
Established by family and friends in memory of Helen Hansen, faculty member at the School of Nursing from 1957-1987, this scholarship is awarded to deserving nursing students.
Helen Colby Nursing Scholarship
Funded by the late Helen Colby ('51 BSN) through her estate to provide scholarships for deserving new undergraduate students attending the School of Nursing.
Helen and Edith Guyor Scholarship
Established by the late Helen ('24 BSN) and Edith Guyor for Sophomore, Junior or Senior level nurses who have achieved a satisfactory passing grade. The donors prefer that recipients be non-smoking female students. As long as satisfactory grades are maintained, the recipients may continue to receive this scholarship annually until graduation.

Jean Douglass Hall Nursing Scholarship
Created by Jean Hall ('46 BSN) to provide support for new undergraduate students who are enrolling in the School of Nursing and who demonstrate academic promise.
Jean Rossman Field Nursing Scholarship
Established by Dorothy Tucker in memory of her dear classmate and lifelong friend, Jean Rossman Field ('44 BSN), to support new full-time undergraduate students in the School of Nursing. According to the donor's wishes, preference will be given to new students with academic promise and merit.
Jennie Lee Gustavson (Wurm-Giere) Scholarship*
Supports new nursing students with academic promise and financial need. In accordance with the donors' wishes preference will be given to students who have an interest in working in underserved locations and who have a strong desire to focus their clinical practice on geriatrics.
Jessie Sleet Scales Nursing Scholarship
Established anonymously to provide financial assistance to an undergraduate nursing student who has an interest in pursuing a career in public health nursing in Minnesota. Preference will be given to a native-born Minnesotan of African-American descent.
John L. Rose Scholarship
Established by the late Beatrice L. Witt, ('28 BSN), as a lasting tribute to her father, who encouraged her to pursue a nursing degree at the University. Awarded to full-time undergraduate students with at least a 3.0 GPA who are interested in public health nursing.
Judith Komives Harris Centennial Scholarship*
In celebration of the School's 2009 Centennial, Judith Komives Harris ('64 BSN) created this scholarship to support new nursing students with academic promise and financial need. In accordance with the donor's wishes, preference will be given to graduates of St. Paul, MN public high schools who have been admitted to the School of Nursing through the Freshman Guarantee Program.
Dr. Karin Alaniz Scholarship
In honor of her 38 years of service to the University and the School of Nursing, Karin L. Alaniz ('77 MS Nursing, '91 PhD Education) created this scholarship in 2015. It is intended to provide support for nursing students, particularly those in the school's BSN program.
Karen L. Johnson Rothenbuhler Nursing Scholarship
Created by Karen Rothenbuhler to provide scholarships to full-time undergraduate students with financial need who are new to the School of Nursing. Preference will be given to undergraduate nursing students in good academic standing who have demonstrated financial need and a passion to pursue nursing as a career.
Linda Kathleen Davis Nursing Scholarship
Mary Jane Davis endowed this scholarship in memory of her sister, Linda Kathleen Davis (BSN, 1969) to reflect the passion that Linda had for the nursing profession, and to honor the empathy and compassion Linda expressed in both her work and her everyday life. Mary Jane is pleased to have the support of her family for this scholarship in honor of their beloved Linda.
Lynette and Theodore Thompson Nursing Scholarship
The Thompsons created this scholarship to support new students who have entered the School of Nursing with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in an area of study other than nursing and wish to pursue a career in nursing by obtaining a professional nursing degree.
Marion Borgeson Scholarship
Created by Marion Ashworth Borgeson in 1989 through a bequest in appreciation for the nursing care she received over the years. A St. Paul, MN native, she contracted polio at the age of five and underwent numerous operations on her legs. Awarded to deserving undergraduate nursing students.
Marion Vannier Scholarship
Named in memory of Marion L. Vannier who served as the School's director from 1924-1930, this scholarship provides support for a nursing student who shows academic promise and financial need. This scholarship was endowed in 2008 thanks to lead gifts from Sadie Vannier and her late husband Wilton (Director Vannier's nephew) and contributions received from alumni.
Mary K. and Cyrus A. Field Undergraduate Scholarship
Created by the late Mary Field to support full-time undergraduate students in the School of Nursing. Awards are for new students with academic promise. The award may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and academic books
Mary Hensler Spurzem Scholarship
Established by the family in memory of their beloved mother, Mary Hensler Spurzem ('23 BSN), this scholarship was created for nursing students with demonstrated need. A second scholarship has now been created by Mary's son, Dr. Robert Spurzem, to provide additional support for new undergraduate nursing students.
Mildred L. Jacobson Scholarship
Lorena W. Jacobson created this fund in 2014 in memory of her mother, Mildred L. Jacobson. It is intended to support undergraduate students in the School of Nursing who are pursuing a BSN and who demonstrate academic merit and financial need. The award may be renewable, provided the recipient demonstrates satisfactory progress toward a degree.
Myrna Jean Klaff Moberg Scholarship
Dr. Thomas D. Moberg established this scholarship in memory of his wife, Myrna Jean Klaff Moberg ('48 BSN). Awarded to students with an interest in public health nursing and demonstrated financial undergraduate need.
Nursing Diversity Scholarship
Provides financial assistance to minority and/or non-traditional students enrolled in the undergraduate nursing program for the purpose of encouraging diversification & promoting multicultural participation.
Nursing Senior Class Scholarship
This fund will be used for an incoming BSN senior who is in good standing & involved in school and/or the community as a volunteer.
Patricia S. Kane Scholarship
Established by Patricia S. Kane ('77 MSN) to help financially challenged students pursue careers in the nursing profession by providing scholarship support for undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Nursing.
Paulina & Wladimir Zenkovich Nursing Scholarship
Established by the late Helen Zenkovich ('48 BSN) in memory of her parents, this scholarship is awarded to deserving undergraduate students who have an interest in public health nursing.
Rochester Nursing Scholarship
Established by alumni and friends to assist undergraduate nursing students attending the School of Nursing on the Rochester campus.
Ruth Ann Johnson Foster Scholarship
Established by Ruth Ann Johnson Foster ('38 BSN) to support deserving students from her hometown of Duluth and beyond who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree as a means of enhancing their ability to deliver patient care.
School of Nursing Scholarship for Doctoral Students
To provide support for students enrolled at the School of Nursing with a preference for awards to doctoral students, both PhD and Doctor of Nursing Practice. Recipients will be encouraged by the School of Nursing to support the School of Nursing philanthropically after completing their studies.
Tanya V. Ash Memorial Scholarship
Established by Harry Lefto in loving memory of his fiancé Tanya V. Ash ('89 BSN) who practiced as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital for 15 years prior to her untimely passing at the age of 38. Supports new students in the School of Nursing with a preference for Minnesota residents who have financial need.
Verniece Buan Scholarship*
Established by the late Verniece Buan ('61 BSN) through her estate and through memorial gifts given by her family and friends for the purpose of providing scholarships to recruit new undergraduate students to the University of Minnesota's School of Nursing.
Walter E. and Adela J. Olson Scholarship*
Established by the late Adela Olson to provide scholarships to recruit new students to the University of Minnesota. Preference will be given to nursing students pursuing a baccalaureate degree as a means of enhancing his or her potential to deliver quality patient care. Students who demonstrate academic promise and maintain at least a B average for the academic year, may in some cases be granted the full scholarship for the next academic year.
William R. & Barbara A. Pearce Family Scholarship
Created by Barbara ('50 BSN) and William Pearce to support undergraduate nursing students who are new to the School of Nursing, have academic merit, and will become recognized as Pearce Scholars. (Awarded by the University of Minnesota Foundation)
