Mary Lou Christensen, BSN ’60, passed away on Aug. 30. A distinguished public health nurse, she set school nurse certification standards and introduced the pediatric nurse practitioner role locally. Recognized as one of the 100 distinguished alumni in 2009, she led alumni boards in Nursing and Public Health, the School of Nursing Foundation Board, and the Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. In 2003, she established the Mary Lou Christensen Research Fellowship in Public Health Nursing to support graduate nursing students interested in research and public health.

John Miller passed away on Aug. 24. He was a steadfast and generous supporter of the School of Nursing. John and his wife, Marilee Miller, who served as associate dean in the School of Nursing from 1989 until her retirement in 2003, established the Marilee A. Miller Fellowship in Educational Leadership. Their philanthropy through this fund supports graduate nursing students preparing for a role in education as a faculty member or clinical educator.

Janice Post-White, PhD ’91, passed away on Aug. 2. She served in oncology nursing and earned her PhD in psychoneuroimmunology. Post-White was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and was an American Cancer Society Professor at the School of Nursing. In 2021, she published her memoir Standing at Water’s Edge: A Cancer Nurse, Her Four-Year-Old Son and the Shifting Tides of Leukemia.
