Biographical Summary
Dr. Carrie Neerland's research is centered around understanding and enhancing birthing individuals' experiences during pregnancy, labor, and birth. Her focus includes maternal confidence for physiologic birth, care practices that support natural childbirth, integration of midwifery care across birth settings, and reducing unnecessary interventions. She also explores issues related to sexual harassment in healthcare. Dr. Neerland holds certifications as a Public Health Nurse, an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Certified Nurse Midwife, and a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing and holds various clinical and hospital roles, including Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Clinical Instructor in the Smiley's Family Medicine Residency Program. Additionally, she is an Asylum Medical Expert, providing trauma-informed care for women seeking asylum after undergoing female genital mutilation. Dr. Neerland is involved in instructional activities as a preceptor for students at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Frontier Nursing University, and other institutions. She is an active member of the Women's Faculty Cabinet, the Minnesota Department of Health Maternal Mortality Review Committee, the Board of Directors for the American College of Nurse-Midwives, and the editorial board for The Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing.

Clinical Summary
Dr. Carrie Neerland holds several certifications, including being a Public Health Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Certified Nurse Midwife licensed by the State of Minnesota Board of Nursing. She is also a Certified Nurse-Midwife certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and a Registered Nurse with licensure from the State of Minnesota Board of Nursing. In her academic career, she is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. She has held various clinical and hospital appointments, serving as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Minnesota Medical School and a Clinical Instructor in the Smiley's Family Medicine Residency Program. Additionally, Dr. Neerland has a significant role as a Certified Nurse-Midwife at the University of Minnesota Physicians since June 2006.
