Biography

Bio

Carrie Neerland, PhD, APRN, CNM, FACNM is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota. Her current research centers on birthing persons’ experiences of pregnancy, labor, and birth, and optimizing their capabilities for birth. Specifically, she examines maternal confidence for physiologic birth, both what it is and how it might be enhanced during the prenatal period. In addition, her research focuses on care practices that support physiologic childbearing, integration of midwifery care across birth settings, and reducing unnecessary interventions. An additional research interest is sexual harassment in health care. Dr. Neerland is a member of the University of Minnesota Women's Faculty Cabinet, member of the Minnesota Department of Health Maternal Mortality Review Committee, and on the Board of Directors for the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She is a peer reviewer for multiple professional journals and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing.
