AAN hosts AI and nursing dialogue with Dean Delaney as a featured speaker
Dean Connie White Delaney, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, FNAP, was a featured speaker at the American Academy of Nursing Policy Dialogue Series AI Transformation in Policy, Practice & Education for Nursing & Health Care: A Foundational Dialogue in November. The policy dialogue engaged internationally recognized experts in technology, bioethics, quality and safety in a discussion addressing AI and nursing. Hosted by the Informatics & Technology Expert Panel, the policy dialogue explored the underlying issues of AI in health care, and addressed ways to work cooperatively with AI in the context of clinical practice, education and research.
School ranks No. 16 in NIH funding
With $6.2 million in awards to the School of Nursing and Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing, the University of Minnesota ranked 16th in National Institutes of Health funding to schools of nursing. The annual tabulation is conducted by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. School of Nursing research is addressing health issues across the life span in local, state, national and global contexts.
Benbenek receives workforce grant for rural nurses
Clinical Professor Mary Benbenek, PhD, APRN, CPNP-PC, FNP-BC, FAANP, FNAP, received funding from the Minnesota Department of Health for APRN Nursing Workforce for Northern Minnesota. In partnership with Essentia Health, the grant will assist 12 Doctor of Nursing Practice students living in northern Minnesota rural communities and increase the number of clinical training sites in rural Minnesota.
School names 4 faculty to leadership roles
Associate Professor Kristine Talley, PhD, APRN, GNP-BC, FGSA, was named associate dean of Faculty Affairs. Clinical Associate Professor Stephanie Delkoski, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, was named the assistant dean for the School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Professor Lucy Mkandawire-Valhmu, PhD, RN, FAAN, was named Population Health and Systems Cooperative chair. Clinical Assistant Professor Elizabeth Hopfenspirger, DNP, APRN, CNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, was named specialty coordinator for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program.

Jessica Brunfelt was honored for being a family nurse practitioner preceptor at Fairview Wyoming.
Julie Kennedy Oehlert was honored for being a health innovation and leadership preceptor at ECU Health.
Maggie Kruger was honored for being an integrative health and healing preceptor at Mayo Clinic-Integrative Oncology.
Anna Zimmerman was honored for being a nurse anesthesia preceptor at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
Sakeena Futrell-Carter was honored for being a nurse-midwifery preceptor at Park Nicollet.
Elizabeth Umberfield was honored for being a nursing informatics preceptor at National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
Lisa Dornick was honored for being a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner preceptor at Minneapolis Public Schools.
Kristin Moquist was honored for being a pediatric clinical nurse specialist preceptor at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.
Ellie Chase-Andresen was honored for being a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner preceptor at Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain.
