School of Nursing Associate Professor Lauren Martin, PhD, was named assistant vice provost for Community-Engaged Research in the Office for Public Engagement.

Martin has 20 years of experience conducting participatory and action research with community partners, and is an affiliate faculty member at the Robert J. Jones Urban Research Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC) and the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

“I am looking forward to working with the University community to further our capacity for authentic partnerships in community-engaged research that will help us deepen the impact of our research and build trust with the public,” says Martin.

In her assistant vice provost role, Martin supports faculty in developing and strengthening community-engaged and publicly impactful research projects and grant proposals. Additionally, she is developing tools and approaches to support building and sustaining community partnerships in research.

“We’re thrilled to have Lauren join us in advancing University-wide efforts to institutionalize and recognize community-engaged research. Her faculty experience will be invaluable in developing strategies to support our many engaged researchers across the system who contribute to making direct impacts for and with the public,” says Laurie Van Egeren, PhD, vice provost for public engagement.

Martin’s assistant vice provost appointment began Jan. 1, and she continues to serve as an associate professor in the School of Nursing.
