Planetary Health is not for some, but for all
April 29, 2025
The Center for Planetary Health and Environmental Justice was intentionally designed to promote the development of Planetary Health expertise in the School of Nursing community, across the University, and beyond the university to the state of Minnesota, the nation and the globe.
To reach this goal, the school has embedded Planetary Health content through the entire curriculum of all programs – Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and PhD – so that every nurse who graduates from the School of Nursing will graduate ready to practice from a Planetary Health foundation.
The center supports the development of faculty so that their service, teaching and unique area of scholarship are linked to Planetary Health principles. Learn how some of the faculty are using Planetary Health concepts in videos available at z.umn.edu/planetaryhealthvideos
The center celebrates the newly revised ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses (2025), which will guide nursing practice. It is the first time that Planetary Health is called out as an ethical imperative.
The School of Nursing’s Center for Planetary Health and Environmental Justice at the University of Minnesota commits to follow this ethic in all that it does.
Finally, the center engages with the International Council of Nurses to promote Planetary Health to the 28 million nurses around the globe. Planetary Health knowledge, skills, and attitudes are not just for some nurses, they are for all nurses and the people and communities that they serve.
