Biography

Bio

Maria Ruud, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC is a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Nursing graduate nursing program. She is a health provider that knows nurses are well positioned to create a safe environment and provide care that is informed, respectful and inclusive. Ongoing education is integral to be a better provider for her patients. She joined faculty from across the country to develop a toolkit for universities looking to improve their curriculum about LGBTQ health care needs. She collaborated with other faculty at the School of Nursing to include transgender standardized patients in students’ simulation-based learning experiences. “As practitioners we need to ask questions and the onus is on us to educate ourselves,” said Ruud. “Health providers, especially nurses, are well positioned to create a safe environment and provide care that is informed, respectful and inclusive.”
