Fulkerson to discuss the family role in childhood obesity prevention at first State of Nursing Science presentation

Professor Jayne Fulkerson, PhD, will be discussing Childhood Obesity Prevention: The Role and Importance of Family at a State of Nursing Science lecture hosted by the School of Nursing.
Childhood obesity is a complex public health problem that requires a multifaceted solution. Family characteristics and the household environment are important components of effective childhood obesity prevention initiatives.
Fulkerson will review the literature on childhood obesity prevention and discuss her research on community interventions on the home food environment and family meals in urban and rural communities.
Fulkerson, the Cora Meidl Siehl Chair in Nursing Research for Improved Patient Care, is a leader in family-based childhood obesity prevention programs and instrument validation, having published more than 125 articles in academic journals.
The State of Nursing Science is an ongoing lecture series presented by School of Nursing faculty about the latest research on critical health issues.
