Nursing Knowledge: Big Data Science Conference to explore AI implementation

The 2026 Nursing Knowledge Big Data Science Conference, which will be held June 3-5 at McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis, will focus on the theme Practice-Ready AI: Nurse-Led Implementation, Governance, and Impact

Through an implementation science lens, attendees will explore artificial intelligence (AI) governance and risk, workforce readiness, legal and regulatory mandates, and workflow redesign for clinical integration. Attendees will leave the conference with a nurse-led implementation charter and a clear adoption plan for their organization. 

Leyla Warsame, MD, associate chief medical information officer at M Health Fairview, will deliver the keynote Making AI Governance Work: Operational Lessons from a Health System on June 4. Drawing on real-world implementation experience, she will share practical lessons from AI solutions governance and operations in a large health system. 

Heidi Roop, PhD, associate professor and director of the climate adaptation partnership at the University of Minnesota, will deliver the keynote Changing Technology Meets a Changing Planet – Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Big Data Impacts & Opportunities on June 5. She will present on the intersection of technology and climate change. 

Other sessions will discuss nurse executives and AI leadership, data-driven population health care, leveraging data to advance health access, and the intersection of data and the environment.

The Nursing Knowledge Big Data Science Initiative work groups will report on major achievements and discuss top priorities for the coming year.
