Biographical Summary
Dr. Ruud is a healthcare provider who knows nurses are well positioned to create a safe environment and provide care that is informed, respectful and inclusive. Ongoing education is integral to be a better provider for her patients. Dr. Ruud joined faculty from across the country to develop a toolkit for universities looking to improve their curriculum about LGBTQ health care needs. She collaborated with other faculty at the School of Nursing to include transgender standardized patients in students’ simulation-based learning experiences. “As practitioners we need to ask questions and the onus is on us to educate ourselves,” said Ruud. “Health providers, especially nurses, are well positioned to create a safe environment and provide care that is informed, respectful and inclusive.”
Clinical Summary
Maria Ruud, DNP, APRN, WHNP, is a nurse practitioner at the Annex Teen Clinic in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Dr. Ruud is passionate about working with youth and finds it rewarding to help them with their healthcare needs. She considers the clinic staff, including the medical director, to be a dream team. Dr. Ruud appreciates the medical director's teaching skills and the support she provides to both patients and colleagues. Dr. Ruud is recognized as a natural teacher with great patience for understanding the issues faced by young patients. The clinic is committed to providing holistic care and creating a supportive environment for both the youth they serve and their team members.
