Biographical Summary

Dr. Fang (Alice) Lei, PhD, MSN, MPH, RN is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing.  Dr. Lei completed her PhD at the UCLA School of Nursing in Dec. 2021, has an MSN from UCLA, an MPH in social medical and health service management from University of South China, and BSN from Wuhan University.  The focus of her scholarship is on health disparities in minority populations, specifically the health and health behaviors of Chinese American smokers and measurement of perceptions of lung cancer screening.  For her dissertation, Dr. Lei adapted and validated the English version of Lung Cancer Screening Health Belief Scales for use by Chinese Americans. She received a doctoral degree scholarship in cancer nursing from the American Cancer Society.  She also has completed a qualitative study examining immigrant smokers’ experiences and perceptions of smoking behavior change and a secondary data analysis of factors related to Chinese immigrant smokers’ smoking behaviors. Her research has been funded by grants from UCLA and from Sigma Theta Tau.  

Dr. Lei has numerous research and clinical publications and presentations. She has clinical experience in gerontological, critical care, and medical surgical nursing in two major hospitals in  Wuhan, China. 

Research Summary

Research interests include cancer prevention and care, cross-cultural research, nursing safety, geriatric nursing, instrument development, adaptation and validation, diabetes, and hypertension.
