About the New APRN Law: Good News for Minnesota

An amendment to the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act passed in 2014, giving nurses who have completed a masters- or doctoral-level program in a nursing specialty area more autonomous practice and prescribing authority. Included are nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists and clinical Nurse Specialists.

Health leaders across the state praised the change, which will help alleviate the shortage of primary care providers in rural and underserved areas.

Attention Alumni

The new law, effective January 1, 2015, requires every current advanced practice nurse who practices in Minnesota to complete an application and a “Confirmation of Program Completion Verification Form”. The form must be signed and returned by January 1, 2015 to the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Complete information and forms are available from the Minnesota Board of Nursing.

To facilitate the completion of your APRN “Confirmation of Program Completion Form”, please complete page one of the form and submit your form to the School of Nursing’s Office of Student and Career Services. The form may be submitted in any of the following ways:
