Porta receives Forensic Nursing Research Award

Professor Carolyn Porta, PhD, RN, SANE-A, FAAN, will receive the 2019 Ann Burgess Forensic Nursing Research Award from the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
This award honors an individual who has made exceptional research contributions to the field of forensic nursing. These contributions may be made through clinical program development, scientific achievement, legislative changes or educational activities.
Porta has both clinical and research expertise in forensic nursing, with over 20 years of experience as a sexual assault nurse examiner. She serves as associate editor of the Journal of Forensic Nursing and recently served on the State of Minnesota’s Sexual Assault Investigation Work Group. In addition, she was appointed to the Special Review Board, which makes recommendations on matters affecting the liberty of people civilly committed as Mentally Ill and Dangerous, a Sexual Psychopathic Personality and/or Sexually Dangerous Person.
Porta serves on the research sub-committee for the University of Minnesota President's Initiative to Prevent Sexual Misconduct and received grants to address sexual violence prevention among college students at the University of Minnesota.
Porta will receive the Forensic Nursing Research Award at the International Conference on Forensic Nursing and Science and Practice in September.
