School hosts rural APRN conference on cannabis, mental health
February 19, 2024
The University of Minnesota School of Nursing is hosting the rural Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Conference Cannabis and Mental Health Care: Exploring intersections with advanced nursing practice.
The conference on April 19 will cover the research regarding the use of medical marijuana in psychiatric care and how recreational marijuana and medical marijuana interact with other psychiatric treatments. State laws, professional ethics and guidelines for certifying patients for medical marijuana will also be covered.
The school has hosted the conference since 2018, which is supported with a Minnesota Department of Health Professions Clinical Training Expansion grant. Last year’s conference attracted 65 providers from different areas throughout the state.
“It started out for only psychiatric APRNs, but in the last few years we recognized that the material covered in our conferences is of interest to other specialties so we’ve opened it up to other APRNs in rural areas,” says Clinical Professor Barbara Peterson, PhD, APRN, PMHCNS-BC, FNAP.
The rural Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Conference Cannabis and Mental Health Care: Exploring intersections with advanced nursing practice conference will be held April 19, 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. at Resource Training and Solutions in Sartell, Minnesota.
