Two nursing faculty named to inaugural class of AMIA Fellows

Two University of Minnesota School of Nursing faculty were named to the inaugural class of Fellows of the American Medical Informatics Association. Associate Professor Karen Monsen, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAMIA, and Clinical Associate Professor Sripriya Rajamani, PhD, MPH, MBBS, FAMIA, were two of the 130 Fellows included in the inaugural class.
The new program recognizes AMIA members who apply informatics skills and knowledge within their professional setting, who have demonstrated professional achievement and leadership, and who have contributed to the betterment of the organization.
Monsen’s expertise is in public health nursing and nursing informatics, and her intervention effectiveness research employs diverse methods including theory-based analysis, data mining, visualization and longitudinal analysis. Monsen leads the Omaha System Community of Practice as the director of the Omaha System Partnership for Knowledge Discovery and Health Care Quality.
Clinical Associate Professor Sripriya Rajamani & Associate Professor Karen Monsen
Rajamani’s research focus in public health informatics, the impact of information technology in public health practice and population health, adoption and use of standards and trying to measure and understand the impact of interoperability. She is a practicing public health informatician with the Minnesota Department of Health and involved with Minnesota e-Health initiatives.

Professionals who brandish FAMIA signal to patients, employers and colleagues that they are steeped in evidence-based practice and engaged with a community of life-long learners who apply the latest advances in informatics to improve health and health care.”
Fellows of AMIA are authorized to use the letters FAMIA in connection with their professional activities. A formal induction ceremony will be held at the AMIA 2019 Clinical Informatics Conference in May 2019.
