May 13, 2016
The University of Minnesota School of Nursing celebrated the class of 2016 during the School of Nursing commencement ceremony May 13 at Northrop. The school welcomed U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who delivered the commencement address. Klobuchar is the senior United States senator from Minnesota and the first woman elected to represent Minnesota in the U.S. Senate. Before serving in the Senate, Klobuchar served as the Hennepin County attorney for eight years and was a legal adviser to former Vice President Walter Mondale.
The School of Nursing enrolls 950 students in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and conducts research to discover non-invasive interventions and practices that improve health. The school's Doctor of Nursing Practice program has the largest full-time enrollment of any DNP program in the country, and the school offers the only PhD in Nursing program in Minnesota. This spring, 145 students earned their Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 73 completed their DNP degree and seven completed the PhD in Nursing.
