Women’s Health Leadership Trust honors Porta, Demorest

Two School of Nursing faculty are being honored by the Women’s Health Leadership Trust. Professor Carolyn Porta, PhD, RN, SANE-A, FAAN, received the Leadership Award, which recognizes women who are viewed by their peers, superiors and business partners as exceptional leaders by being imaginative, creative, resourceful, encouraging and results-oriented. Porta is a professor and the director of global health at the school. Her clinical and research expertise is in forensic nursing.

Clinical Assistant Professor Shanda Demorest, DNP, RN-BC, PHN, received the Health and Well-Being Award, which honors women who advance the health and well-being of individuals, organizations and communities. Demorest’s research focuses on the health impacts of climate change and empowering health professionals to take action on climate change.

The Women's Health Leadership Trust is a professional network of more than 500 women in health care, founded in the Twin Cities. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on April 9.
