The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) announced that Clinical Professor Cheri Friedrich, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, IBCLC, FNAP, was selected to be inducted into the 2022 Class of Fellows. The achievement is considered one of the highest honors in the nursing profession.

Fellows are nurse leaders who are experts in policy, research, administration, practice and academia that champion health and wellness, locally and globally.

Friedrich is a leader in interprofessional education (IPE), advancing IPE across health professions internationally, nationally and locally. She co-developed and now serves as the co-director of the University’s Center for Interprofessional Health. She has transformed IPE across the University through collaborative internal and external partnerships, impacting the curriculum of over 1,000 students from multiple health professions programs each year. She is lead developer of two innovative interprofessional health care escape room experiences, downloaded more than 800 times and utilized in nearly every state and 12 countries.

She serves as the specialty coordinator for pediatric nurse practitioner-primary care and is a pediatric nurse practitioner in a federally qualified health center. She serves as president of the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

“At a time when investments in, and policy to address, health equity, innovation, and access are paramount, the Academy is thrilled to welcome these dynamic and courageous nurse leaders who will support our collective vision of healthy lives for all people,” said AAN President Kenneth R. White, PhD, RN, AGACNP, ACHPN, FACHE, FAAN.  “Induction in the Academy is a powerful moment in a nurse’s career. When we gather this fall, to award the Fellowship credential, I look forward to celebrating each Fellow’s incredible accomplishments that have improved the wellbeing of communities across the globe.”

Friedrich is the only Minnesota nurse being inducted this year. An induction ceremony will be held at AAN’s annual Health Policy Conference in October in Washington, D.C.
