April 28, 2022

Jeannine Rivet

Jeannine Rivet, MPH, BSN, RN, FAAN, retired executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group, will deliver the commencement address at the School of Nursing’s commencement ceremony on Friday, May 13 at 2 p.m. at Northrop.

Rivet is an active board member, adviser, mentor and coach, including serving on the Dean’s National Board of Visitors. At UnitedHealth Group, Rivet worked with and on behalf of all business segments in areas focused on strategic business relationships, clinician advancement, culture and social responsibility. Previous roles at UnitedHealth Group include serving as CEO of UnitedHealthcare, Ingenix and Optum.

Students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice and PhD in Nursing programs will be graduating. BSN students will participate in a Pinning Ceremony, which is a nursing tradition that dates back more than 100 years where new nurses are presented with the school’s pin by the faculty. It represents a symbolic welcoming of new graduates into the nursing profession. The School of Nursing pin features four symbols representing the four dimensions of higher education: the antique lamp represents the metaphysical sciences, the telescope represents the physical sciences, the plow represents the industrial arts and the artist’s palette represents the fine arts. Above and below the shield is the cross of St. George, which for centuries has stood for unselfish service.
