School names scholars to receive $125,000

PhD students Kara Koschmann, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC, and Meghan Hultman, MSN, RN, were named Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Future of Nursing Scholars and will receive $125,000 each to use over the course of three years to complete their PhD degrees. The School of Nursing is one of 31 nursing schools nationwide to receive funding to increase the number of nurses with PhD degrees. Koschmann isresearching the parenting needs of urban, low-income families with young children who are African American and how pediatric health care providers can best meet their needs. Hultman is a senior nurse researcher in neuro-oncology with the John Nasseff Neuroscience Institute at Allina Health in Minneapolis. She is interested in promoting quality of life for patients with neurological disorders and their families and will explore nonpharmacological interventions for symptom management.

Koschmann and Hultman are the latest to receive the scholarship and recognition. Two current PhD students, Helen Fu and Grace Gao, received the scholarship and will graduate within three years this spring.
