Professor Jayne Fulkerson, PhD, and Professor Diane Treat-Jacobson, PhD, RN, FAAN, were each named the Cora Meidl Siehl Chair in Nursing Research for Improved Patient Care. The fund was established in 1982 to celebrate the legacy of Meidl Siehl and was a cornerstone in the creation of the school’s doctoral program. It was among the very first endowed chairs in schools of nursing to focus on research.

Sam Myers, MD, director of Harvard University’s Planetary Health Alliance, will deliver the commencement address at the School of Nursing spring commencement ceremony May 17. Myers is a senior research scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, an instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine.

PhD students Kara Koschmann, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC, and Meghan Hultman, MSN, RN, were named Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Future of Nursing Scholars and will receive $125,000 each to use over the course of three years to complete their PhD degrees.

Kuei-Min Chen, PhD ’00, MS ‘96, an established gerontological health expert working to advance the health and well-being of older adults in Taiwan and around the world, received the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals, awarded by the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance (GPS Alliance) and the University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA).

University of Minnesota School of Nursing PhD student Mary Whipple has been awarded a $100,000 scholarship, the only such award bestowed this year by the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

Nursing Collaboratory, the award-winning academic-practice partnership between the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Fairview Health Services and University of Minnesota Health, was among the co-signers of a call-to-action for clinicians to mobilize around planetary health published in the medical journal The Lancet.

Professor Susan O’Conner-Von, PhD, RN, was named a recipient of the 2018-2019 Award for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate and Professional Education by the University of Minnesota. The University of Minnesota School of Nursing celebrated the graduation of 62 Master of Nursing (MN) and 19 Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students at a commencement ceremony Friday, Dec. 13 at Northrop.
